Moving Forward on My Black Lab Painting

Still not complete, and every time I pick up a colored pencil I learn something new about the medium and painting black dogs. But enough is enough for this copy.

I do think I am ready to make the final copy after I address some technical issues. I will render the ATC (Artist Trading Card) first and then a larger version for my "cave".

The Colored Pencil Society demonstration yesterday showed how to use a heat gun to melt the colored pencil to blend it. I tried that technique on this painting, but the paper was not suitable for a major effect. The artist-demonstrater used Ampersand Encaustic (Clay) Board as the substrate.

I made a trip to the art supply store today and purchased the boards. I am eager to try, but anxious about ruining the boards. It might be easier if my first clay board painting would be a floral.
